HMZ12lcC_400x400Hailing from Boston, MA Chef Buonagurio got his experience the good old fashioned way; by working and learning from great mentors and getting his hands filthy dirty with experience. His past mentors include Executive Chef Paul Callahan (past guest) and restaurateur Jason Santos. Now, armed with the experience he needs for success, Chef Buonagurio most recently was KILLING IT at Parla located in Boston’s North End. Chef Callahan said, “I had to talk to him.” And I’m happy I did! Listen in while chef Buonagurio explains the power of living with a definite purpose.

  • Living with a definite purpose: making himself and others happy through sustainable healthy ways.
  • Cooking/Farming.
  • Teaching others what he’s passionate about.

Industry Challenge or Failure

  • Falling weak to the temptation of drug use when opportunities were becoming available. Chef, committed himself to jail to get clean. It was a pivotal point in his life; by clearing his head he was able to find his definite purpose.
  • Sending and dish out that wasn’t cooked properly; when he new it wasn’t cooked properly. Alright isn’t good enough.
  • Telling his chef he was confident on the grill, when he knew he really wasn’t.

  • Get yourself out there. Go to events, attend fundraisers. Surround yourself with the people you want to work with. Work with a definite purpose.

  • Look for the good in people.
  • Look for the people who may need some improvement, but have the attitude to want to improve.

Employee Retainment

  • You need to be able to relate with your staff. Empathize with them.
  • Be flexible and have the patience to figure your staff out.
